I saw that Jing was on the librarian’s Reference computer and I also downloaded it on mine.  Very, very cool!  I love the videos in particular; I’m working on some for the MLA Bibliography and for our new Literature Criticism Online.  Would anyone else like to do some others?

I don’t know if this is something we want to look into; Meebo seems to be working well for us in terms of IM reference, but this has been getting attention as well:

Comp I classes

More thinking has been going on! I’ve got some suggestions for a bit of revamping for the fall semester.

Library tour – We probably should take a look at this since some things have changed. Maybe we could make a list of things they should cover instead of actual questions. This would allow the students a bit more freedom and hopefully encourage them to be a bit more participatory.

Session 2 – I think that we can still cover catalog searching and a couple of general databases. There are some ways we could make this a bit more interactive for the students.

Session 3 – My opinion is that we still definitely need a session 3. I’d actually recommend we come up with a really good evaluating resources activity for this. I know we’ve been waiting to talk about this in Comp 2 classes, but it’s truly never too early to make them start thinking about what they are using. And we could work with a couple of more in-depth databases and the internet doing some comparisons and such. Again with an interactive element.

Part of this comes out of working with the Research methods class this summer where I had some good response to covering these various things and making it interactive. I think we can probably come up with a really good template to use with the classes that will allow for individual teaching styles.
